There are 2 levels of hazmat suits worn by first responders around the world, at varying degrees of protection or (in some cases) blinding…
First Protective Level: Level A – Semi-Formed Protective Ephemera Suit
This form is designed to spread force across a wider surface area but produce less attenuation. Most commonly used in firefighting and hazardous material situations. This suit is usually still supplemented with a Nomex protective layer.
Second Protective Level: Level B Heavy Protective Material Suits
Designed to protect against immediate corrosive environments this level typically uses a kevlar fiber hood, body armor and flexible rubber sleeves (kevlar sleeves). The level B suit can tolerate multiple lifetimes of chemical exposure before breakdown unless exposed directly to flame or radiation sources which may cause accelerated breakdown through secondary chemical reactions.
Where can i purchase a hazmat suit?
You need to call a company/person who provides hazmat suits. They are generally constructed of fire retardent dual-material, acid and flame wear resistant material (usually Prym) with additional chemical protection systems built in.
What material are hazmat suits made of?
I’m not sure what kind of material a hazmat suit is made up of. I would imagine that it’s outfitted with some type of filtering to prevent bodily fluids and other hazardous materials from being transported around the body and out of the suit.
